What Communities Allow Short Term Rentals

When considering the purchase of an investment property on Hilton Head Island, SC, one common question that arises is, "Can I put this property on the vacation rental market?" It's not always a straightforward answer, but we've created a helpful map of the Island, highlighting in gold areas where Short Term Rentals (STRs) are generally permitted.

However, it's important to note that specific neighborhoods within STR communities may have their own restrictions. For instance, in Palmetto Dunes, there's a gated neighborhood called Leamington that does not allow STRs – even though Palmetto Dunes typically permits STRs. Additionally, some neighborhoods in Sea Pines also have restrictions on STRs. In contrast, the communities outline in blue offer excellent opportunities for long-term rentals – so don't overlook the potential in these areas.
